about us
Sue Ann Armitage is deeply rooted in St. Mary’s County. Her father, a World War II veteran, retired from the U.S. Navy as a Master Chief.
Sue Ann grew up in the town of Ridge, attended schools here, and remains tightly connected to her community. After completing undergraduate studies at UMBC and law school at the University of Baltimore, Sue Ann returned to St. Mary’s County to open her own practice.
Her first office space was provided to her by the well known, local insurance firm of Cross & Wood. John Bohanan, Sr., the father of former Delegate John Bohanan, Jr., learned that Sue Ann was hanging out a shingle and helped her get started. Bohanan asked former Delegate Johnny Wood and his business partner, Ken Cross, if they had any extra office space. They saw Sue Ann’s promise as a young person starting a business and provided her with office space at no charge. Sue Ann has never forgotten the generosity shown to her by the community as she began her career.
For many years, Armitage & Armitage has provided free legal services such as wills and powers of attorney to active duty military members as a way of expressing gratitude.
Dan Armitage is also deeply rooted in St. Mary’s County. His father was stationed here as a Navy Lieutenant, and the family stayed after his discharge. He was born on the Patuxent River Naval Air Station back when it had its own hospital. He attended schools in St. Mary’s until crossing the Chesapeake Bay to attend Washington College in Chestertown. He then returned to St. Mary’s to write for a newspaper called The St. Mary’s Tide. Thereafter, he enrolled at the University of Maryland School of Law. He returned to St. Mary’s County where he was the first law clerk to The Hon. Marvin S. Kaminetz. He then entered into private practice with the firm that became Densford & Armitage, a partnership between Dan and David W. Densford, who was later appointed as a Circuit Court Judge in Leonardtown.
Dan and Sue Ann were married in 1995, and soon merged their law practices to become Armitage & Armitage, P.A. in Lexington Park. They have been in business here for 32 years, 28 of them as Armitage & Armitage, P.A. They have a daughter who also resides in St. Mary’s County. They reside on the shores of the St. Mary’s River in Drayden, with two dogs and a cat.
